Shampooing Hair

Shampoo hair with a shampoo that has been recommended for you during your consultation. Massage scalp with your finger tips. The last shampoo, use Creme of Nature shampoo, it conditions and softens the hair for the final rinse. Use Lady Hilda Creme rinse to soften and condition the hair and to help remove traces of shampoo that may be left in the braids during the rinse. This will prevent dry rot from shampoo being left in the hair. Condition with the recommended hair conditioner and then apply Lady Hilda Creme Oil, Blue Magic or Blue Velvet hair conditioner to the scalp.

Removing Braids

When removing the braids, apply Wella Balsam hair conditioner, a section at a time and remove braids. After taking out a braid, comb from the end of the braid to the root until it combs out smoothly. Take that section and secure in a large braid until all the braids are taken out. The Wella Balsam hair conditioner will soften the hair and prevent breakage in the removal of the braids. If you can't find this conditioner a leave-in conditioner will do. I recommend Wella Balsam because it does not dry as fast at other conditioners. Lady Hilda Creme oil is also recommended for the removal of braids. If your hair is well conditioned with Blue Magic or Blue Velvet you may not have to use the Wella Balsam.

When to take the Braids Out

Never leave your braids in longer than three months. Hair tends to weaken after three months and you will experience a greater hair loss when removing braids.

Styling Braids

Style the braids with a jumbo hair pins that were provided by your stylist. try and stay away from scrunchies because they are usually too small to pull all of the braids through with ease? Use a tie or bobbles (two with the elastic) to secure hair in a pony tail, the bobbles can always be hidden.

Never secure braids in a tight hair style. Tight pulling of the hair causes bumps. If these bumps get infected your hair will fall our in bald spots. If not treated correctly, you could go bald. Tight braiding also destroys the hair follicle and thins the hair.
